If you go, I will give you two recommendations for dining. There are sooooo many amazing restaurants in Zermatt but we always like to eat at traditional Swiss food restaurants. The first restaurant is called Le Mazot. We ate a delicious fondue bourguignonne which is a large pot of boiling oil (very hot) and your plate of raw filet. You then dip your meet into the pot and allow it to cook. Your main plate comes with plenty of sauces and some little additions like cornichons and cocktail onions. This all comes with a side of french fries…probably not the healthiest thing you’ll ever eat but it sure it delicious!
Up next is probably our favorite restaurant in Zermatt, Stockhorn Grill.
It is off the main path but well worth the walk because they make an unbelievable meal. If you’re into chicken, you can go in to the restaurant either the morning of or the day before and ask for their roasted chicken…then when you come in to dinner, you’re fresh chicken is ready for you…slow roasted all day…and absolutely delicious. Last night we ate here and we ordered the Chateaubriand which is a large filet for two people, served with potatoes gratin, grilled vegetables and a salad…it’s meal for those that love to eat…which luckily for the restaurant, we do. Also, the meats are cooked in an open flame grill…so you can imagine the flavors.
And finally…where to stay. Thankfully for all of us…Zermatt is fully equipped to handle the millions of tourists they receive. There are hotels for every budget and want…but we have a favorite and it is the Firefly Hotel. It’s a boutique hotel with the luxury of any 5 star hotel you can imagine….but the thing that sets it apart is the warmth and attention to detail. We have stayed here the last 3 years and we both agree that it’s the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at. I’m afraid my pictures won’t do it justice so I urge you to check out their site and see for yourself the beauty, chicness and elegance of this hotel.
Well, that’s it for our time here…we will leave to head back to Zurich later today. As usual, we loved our time here in Zermatt. I hope you’ll get a chance to experience this village one day. If you’re ever in Switzerland, I can tell you that this is something that you should see if you can. The nature, the warmth of the people, the variety of activities…it’s all here, in this tiny city at the foot of the massive Matterhorn. Thanks for coming along and I’ll see you in the next town…
