My toddler, Mia, is acting exactly how I feel. Overjoyed.
What a year this has been. For some it was good, for some it was bad, and for some it was just another year. For us, as a family, it started out pretty rocky with my body still recovering from the preeclampsia I suffered postpartum, but around May, things started to turn around.
I got a clean bill of health, was able to start working out again (definitely helped my mood), and I finally felt like I could put that whole scary chapter behind. And I did.
We left for Europe in June and we genuinely enjoyed our entire summer there. It’s amazing what seeing the world through your children’s eyes can do for your appreciation of life.
Once back home, we kept on with our positive vibes and tried to be outdoors as much as possible to reap the benefits of living in Miami Beach to the fullest.
We bought our first home this year (yay!!!) and even though we are in the dreaded demo phase, we still are super excited and happy to have had the chance to own our dream home.
The kids are growing fast and they are the perfect balance of ying and yang. Calm and energetic. Funny and serious. Blond and brunette. Boy and girl. We have learned so much from each of them but the biggest thing we’ve learned is that we still don’t know much ;)
Every phase is different and your parenting style must evolve too. We are constantly striving to be better parents, better listeners, and better students. Kids are the greatest teachers if you’re willing to do the work.
In 2017, there are a couple of things I would like to work on.
1) get more organized: pre-kids I was the queen of lists for lists. I loved/thrived/needed organization. I still do but find that I must be willing to let things be a little disorganized in this crazy little parental world. What’s changed? Well, I’m feeling a calmness now that little Alexander is over a year that I didn’t have before and we’ve got the babes on a pretty good schedule so I’m looking forward to being able to get a little more organized this next year. I already bought a new calendar which I fully intend on using and not just sitting on my desk.
2) take better care of myself. It’s not selfish, it’s self love. The doctors kept telling me when I was sick that I needed to put myself first sometimes in order to be the best mom for my children. I didn’t see it then but I do now. I’ve been working out frequently for the last 7 months and I’m finally seeing results. And I love it. I feel and look so much better than I did before. Me taking that hour a couple times a week has done wonders not only for my body but for my mind. Sometimes I need to disconnect and sweat it out.
3) go that extra step. I have some great ideas, thoughts, dreams, visions, that I would love to see happen but I find I am not executing them past the point of conjuring them up in my mind. I need to take those extra steps. To create something in my mind is wonderful but to push it to a tangible, real, level is amazing. So I’m hoping that I allow myself to find the time and energy to give some of my dreams a little bit more push and hopefully see some of them become reality.
Thank you for reading this blog, for following my journey through fashion with an occasional life post like this. I appreciate your time, your support, and your encouragements.
Wishing each and everyone of you a beautiful end of 2016 and a truly wonderful new year!
