Musical Monday: Amy Grant

Totally going old school this week by bringing back Amy Grant but there was no other song that I felt could do on this Christmas Eve. For me, it’s one of the most beautiful songs out there and the words are more meaningful then ever. In the midst of all things that have happened and continue to happen everyday, I hope that we are all able to put out good wishes of love, peace and happiness for one another. Here is “My Grown-up Christmas List” to serve as a poignant reminder of all things that truly matter (I also included the lyrics below for those of you that would like to read the words):

Musical Monday: MIKA

For starters, let me just go on the record to say that Art Basel kicked by butt. Never have I had a week quite as crazy as this past one. This was by far the biggest Art Basel in all the years that I have been attending. And bigger means more openings, parties, dinners and events…which is all fabulous but that requires stamina and enduring toe cramps (from all the heels you wear). To survive Art Basel one must be organized, RSVP’d and prepared mentally for the traffic. I was all of these things and I still almost collapsed on Sunday. Now that it’s over there is only one thing I want to do and that leads me to this week’s Musical Monday choice. It’s the fabulous MIKA sending out a message to all my fellow Miamians…so please, relax, take it easy!

XOXO,
Martha

Musical Monday: A-Ha

So this is it…the first day of the best week in Miami…Art Basel week! I can’t even begin to tell you all how excited I am for this week. First off, I like to think of myself as a bit of a collector. I have over 30 pieces of original artwork covering almost every inch of my walls in my apartment, so I am always looking to see if something will catch my eye for my growing collection. Secondly, the fusion of fashion, art, music, food and Miami is a concoction that is truly unique. There’s something so natural about this mélange. It just works and I can’t wait to share it with you all here. For this week’s Musical Monday I wanted to post something that incorporated art and what better video than A-Ha’s “Take on Me” where art truly comes to life. Much like what will be happening this week in Miami.

XOXO,
Martha

Musical Monday: Justin Beiber

I know what you’re thinking…her taste in music lately has been saturated sugary sweet, right?
Well, actually I thought this song was a perfect way to announce some big news…and since the title of the song is called “Baby”…you might have a good idea as to what I’m referring to. Yep…I’ve got a bun in the oven, awaiting a little bundle of joy, done got myself knocked-up, 100% preggo…in plain English, my hubby and I are having a baby!

Musical Monday: Wham!

Oh yes…we’re kicking off this week with a whole lot of fun and a little bit of cheesiness…but it’s all in the name of sheer fabulousness.
I mean, those shorts, the highlighted hair, the feathered bangs, the gorgeous tans and the non-political “Choose Life” shirts (they were meant to raise awareness against suicide and drug abuse)…this is classic 80’s era captured on film. And honestly, I have to admit…I’m a sucker for this song. If this can’t get your week started on the right foot, nothing can. So wake up friends and start off your Monday with a Wham!

XOXO,
Martha

PS…Congratulations to Daisy Nguyen from PS Bananas! You were randomly selected as the winner of the Leslie Tessler cape! You’re going to love it :)

Musical Monday: Bob Marley

Hi all… I know last week was basically a non-existent week in my blogging life and I sincerely apologize for that…no one likes inconsistency, right? The truth is there are a lot of things going on in my life right now…so wonderful and some not so great so in the midst of trying to find the balance of the good and the bad, I have not had the time to write here. And lastly, I am a big believer of authenticity…therefore to post simply for the sake of posting would not be authentic to me nor fair to you. So…now that that rambling is done, let’s continue to more musical things, shall we?

Regardless of what type of day I’m having…this song always makes me feel good, happy and listening to the words will actually have you believing that “every little thing’s gonna be alright”…

XOXO,
Martha

Musical Monday: Zero Assoluto

As some of you may know…I missed last week’s Musical Monday’s post because I was so behind from being sick. And on that note, being sick is the worse, you get so behind on work and life but I will admit that there is a silver lining…I know, I know…being sick has an upside? Yes…you are able to sit around and watch deliciously romantic/funny/girly movies and not feel guilty for spending the day in bed. And I did that happily. One of the movies I watched was the charming “Letters to Juliet”…and if you’ve seen it, I am sure you’ll appreciate this week’s pick. This is a song from the soundtrack and it’s fun, peppy and utterly Italiano! And sometimes those three things are just what the doctor ordered ;)

XOXO,
Martha

Musical Monday: Leighton Meester

Okay, so I may have jumped the gun a bit when I posted the Peter, Bjorn and John song a couple of weeks back (see it here) since this week it would have been perfect because tonight is the big premier of Gossip Girl’s final series…and as you may have gathered…I’m kind of a big fan. Besides the inevitable drama…the show is packed with ridiculous fashion and great music. And in regards to music, Leighton Meester (aka Blair Waldorf) has been working to make a name for herself in the music scene for a while. I thought this week’s slot had to go to her. So enjoy Miss Blair in her sexiest outfits to date singing about finding someone to love (hello…where is Chuck when you need him?).

XOXO,
Martha

Musical Monday: Dragonette

I think of myself of a pretty creative person even though I am not able to carry a tune, sketch a stick person or play a musical instrument…creativity is much more than the talents that can be seen. It’s also the way you perceive things, the way you live your life and the way you interpret what you see/hear/feel…that’s where your creativity shines. So why am I rambling about this? Well, because sometimes I hear a song and I can visualize it in a unique setting…like this fantastic song from Dragonette.
Every time I hear it,  I can so clearly picture a fashion show in  Paris, with sleek designs, dark colors, edgy girls, a mirrored catwalk, sexy and cool…so, now that I’ve set the stage for you, close your eyes and press play.

XOXO,
Martha

Musical Monday: Peter, Bjorn and John

I know it’s late but technically it’s still Monday…so let’s get started. It’s officially fall on the calendars and for me, this means one seriously major thing: Gossip Girl will be back soon! Actually, it will begin its final season on October 8th…yeah…I’m dying to see this. I remember seeing Gossip Girl the first season and loving every minute of this new indulgence I had discovered. The first scene ever was Serena Van der Woodsen on the train heading back to Manhattan after her stint away at boarding school and this is the song that played:

Peter, Bjorn & John – Young Folks

Are there any other Gossip Girl fanatics like me that recognize this song and scene? If so…you’re my type of peep!
I know this season will be amazing…full of the drama that we’ve all grown to love on Gossip Girl and no doubt Mr. Eric Daman (see my post with him here) will be bringing it big time in the fashion department.

So…let me know…are you excited for Gossip Girl to start?

XOXO,
Martha
